Electrical Utilities

Practical FR Workwear for Your Industry

The electrical utilities industry includes electric power transmission, distribution or generation. Workers in all of these fields face the possibility of exposure to arc flash, and those involved in electricity generation may also be exposed to flash fire.

Hazards and Standards

The OSHA 29 CFR 1910.269 regulation requires employers to identify employees that are at risk of exposure to these hazards, analyze the level of incident heat energy to which they could be exposed, and ensure that workers wear the appropriate protective clothing. The National Electrical Safety Code (NESC), adopted as law by many states, provides additional requirements related to the use of flame-resistant (FR) clothing.
